Support Programs

University Music Major Scholarships:

Annual scholarships are awarded to select music majors attending a Virginia university. These students are featured in performance at WMC's January MUSICAL INTERLUDE fundraising event. Recipients are chosen by the university music departments.

2024-2025 Recipients:

Aidan Douglas, piano, James Madison University

Peter Mattson, clarinet, Shenandoah University

Jack Siegel, voice (bass-baritone), University of Virginia

Student Symphony Player Music Lesson Scholarships:

The WMC supports the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia by funding private music lessons for up to four student symphony players each year. Recipients are chosen by the Symphony staff and principals. Private music lessons are not covered as part of tuition costs at the University of Virginia, so these scholarships help to increase students’ proficiency on their instrument and can also help train students to play less commonly played instruments that are needed for a specific ensemble or specific orchestral works.

Educational Outreach Funds:

Funds are annually given to area public school music programs for the purchase of music teaching resources.  In 2024-25, WMC awarded the following:
